Pine Level's Jimmy Garner has filed for state House race Dist.26

Pine Level Mayor Pro-tem Jimmy Garner, 39, a Democrat, announced Wednesday he will seek the state House seat .

"My fresh perspective will offer our district a new voice in Raleigh," said Garner. "I will speak loudly for our district in terms of managing growth and planning for our future rather than playing partisan politics of the past."

An 18-year employee with the state Department of Corrections in Smithfield, Garner is serving his second term as a Pine Level Town Commissioner and his first a mayor pro-tem. He has served as statewide treasurer and vice president of the State Employees Association, the nation's largest non-union public employee's association.



Garner said in his announcement that he will be a steward for taxpayers of Johnston County. He said he will commission himself to guarantee that the county's needs will be met from a state level. He added that he will address priorities such as better schools ,Health care, roads, and fair treatment for public employees. He stated that he cares about the citizens of Johnston County


"I'm not afraid to reach out across the aisle and work with members of either party," said Garner. "I dedicate myself to the hard working men and women of  Johnston County. I will bring your voice, values and needs to Raleigh with me."

Garner is married to Gina M. Garner and they have two children, Trevor, 18, and Mackenzie, 11. They attend Pine Level Free Will Baptist Church
