For our community and state to progress, we need better jobs and more opportunities. Whether it’s a small business starting-up or a clean energy manufacturing plant looking to expand, I will continue to work to create jobs that can support a family, pay fair wages, provide health care, and offer opportunities for advancement.
Going door-to-door, I heard the loud call for real property tax relief. As your State Senator, I will continue to be a strong advocate for property tax transparency and relief through expansions to the homestead exemption and aid to local governments.
Our sense of community and responsibility is something that makes the 5th Legislative District unique and strong. In the Legislature I will continue the fight to stand up against gangs and graffiti through tougher penalties and adequate funding for crime prevention and intervention.
As I’ve said numerous times, we need a state government that does more with less. As a State Senator on the budget-writing Appropriations Committee, I will to lead the efforts to make our state government more accountable by promoting transparency and access to public data, advocate performance-driven budgeting and state contracts, as well as push for a Government Performance Review of every state agency.
I believe that strong families build strong communities. As a pro-all-of-life Catholic, I will work to promote a consistent ethic of life and support community organizations that help mothers, families and children through difficult times.
