Morgan McGarvey represents the 19th Kentucky Senate District, which includes parts of the Highlands, Crescent Hill, Audubon Park, St. Matthews, Hikes Point and Jeffersontown. Currently in his first term, Sen. McGarvey is a member of the Banking and Insurance, Licensing and Occupations, Local Government, State Government and Transportation committees.
During the 2013 legislative session Morgan worked across the aisle to help pass measures which tighten the safety regulation of amusement rides and attractions, reform our pension system, grant bonding authority for our universities, help obtain insurance coverage for nutritional supplements needed after premature births, implement a statewide teacher evaluation system, and co-sponsor a number of other bills. In addition, he was selected to serve on two conference committees and was asked by the State Auditor to serve as the Senate spokesman for House Bill 1 - a landmark measure that will ensure more oversight and accountability for the state's more than 1,200 special taxing districts.
After graduating from duPont Manual High School and the University of Missouri's journalism program, Morgan earned a degree from the University of Kentucky College of Law, worked at Frost, Brown, Todd in Louisville and served as an Assistant Attorney General in Frankfort. He currently practices at Morgan & Pottinger, a firm founded by his grandfather, and volunteers in the Louisville Bar Association's Domestic Violence Advocacy Program.
A Louisville native, Morgan lives in the Strathmoor neighborhood with his wife, Chris, and their twin children, Clara and Wilson. Also a Missouri graduate, Chris is a Learning and Development Professional at Yum! Brands, Inc.Louisville is my home.
